Scientific Program

The workshop consisted of a comprehensive blend of didactic lectures, case-based discussions, equipment familiarization and hands-on training sessions.

The major themes covered included:

• Principles and indications of CRRT
• Patient selection and timing of initiation
• CRRT modalities and prescription
• Vascular access and circuit management
• Anticoagulation strategies
• Troubleshooting alarms and common technical issues
• Fluid balance and solute management
• CRRT in sepsis and multiorgan failure
• Nursing aspects of CRRT delivery and monitoring
• Practical demonstrations and hands-on machine training

The sessions were interactive, allowing participants to engage directly with faculty and gain practical insights into real-world CRRT implementation.

Outcomes

The workshop achieved its primary objectives of enhancing awareness and competency in CRRT among critical care practitioners and nurses. Participants demonstrated keen interest in the expanding role of extracorporeal therapies in modern critical care.

Key outcomes included:

• Improved understanding of CRRT principles and applications.
• Increased confidence in prescribing and managing CRRT.
• Enhanced nursing competence in CRRT setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees appreciating the practical focus and the opportunity to learn from experienced national and international faculty.

Conclusion

The First Workshop on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) organized jointly by NSCCM and the Nephrocritical Care Group of ISCCM was a significant academic initiative that successfully promoted nephrocritical care education in Nepal. The workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, skill development, and professional networking, thereby contributing to the advancement of CRRT practice and the care of critically ill patients in the region.
